In May a special recognition is held during our Sunday morning worship service for our middle school, high school and college graduates. A reception for the graduates is held following the service.
Community Bible School
A week-long community Bible School is held in June with children from the area churches all coming to New Basel to learn and spread the excitement of God’s word through stories, Bible verses, songs, and activities.
Our annual church picnic is held in July or August. Past picnics have been held at Eisenhower Park in Abilene, Camp Mary Dell in Brown’s Park south of Abilene, and White Memorial Camp near Council Grove. It is a morning of games, fellowship, and a worship service, followed by a basket dinner (potluck) or catered meal at noon.
Abilene Area Food Pantry
During the month of September New Basel collects non-perishable food items, hygiene products and monetary donations for the Abilene Area Food Pantry.
Our Harvest Home celebration is held in October. There is a guest speaker for the morning worship service and a basket dinner following the service.
Hanging of the Greens
Hanging of the Greens ceremony is held during worship service on the first Sunday of Advent. Children, youth and adults take part in this service to prepare us for the Christmas season.
Christmas caroling is scheduled on a Sunday afternoon or evening in December. Our carolers visit and sing a variety of Christmas carols to members of the church who are living in nursing homes and retirement homes, or older members who are not able to attend church services regularly.
Christmas Eve Service
A Christmas Eve Service is held at New Basel every year. The service consists of the Children’s Christmas program, singing Christmas hymns, a Christmas meditation, and a candlelight service.
